IN DEPTH (MINEFIELDS): FURTHER DOCUMENTATION next: angola previous: cambodia home - in depth Timeline of project's development - design by Gabriela Davies Locations of minefields in the project - design by Gabriela Davies The "Vertigo" effect: this effect is achieved by controlling the focal length and vantage point to keep the subject's magnification size constant on the camera's sensor or film strip. In the "In Depth" series, four series of images show a constant subject size at the center, while the frame's edges evolve progressively. The background and foreground shift in scale and size, but the central element stays the same in size regardless of the distance. The four series feature central elements: a red skull sign in Angola, two tree trunks in Bosnia, a red marker in Colombia, and a lone tree in Cambodia. The sequences of images create a crossing that progressively evolves within the structure and perspective of each frame.
